3D printing is a powerful tool to practice Math and Design, encourage creativity and innovation, and promote critical thinking and problem solving! By designing, making and working with the tangible projects, the development of understanding is enhanced far beyond what is possible in the traditional classroom.

Autodesk’s Tinkercad is one of the most popular classroom tools for creating simple designs from scratch, quickly modifying existing designs. It’s a free online 3D design program that you can use in your web browser without downloading any software.

Why take this course?

It is for beginner, and no pre requirement besides the curiosity. Over twelve weeks, you’ll develop your knowledge of simple 3D modeling and printing.

You’ll apply your knowledge to overcome the series of challenges, including checking the existing model, imagining the object, and create the small object, export to 3D print ready file, etc.

As a coach, you’ll have the chance to develop the necessary skill set for using the 3D modeling tool and 3D printer in your classroom or living room, and to connect with a network of other coaches.

  • What is Tinkercad and how to use it?
  • How to export files and have them printed by a 3D printer?
  • When you have a concept, what are the different ways that you can bring it into reality?

By the end of the course, you'll be able to...

  • Develop understanding of how the 3D modeling can be used as a tool for creative.
  • Apply knowledge of 3D modeling concepts to build the object out of imagination.
  • Print the small object using the 3D modelling tool 
  • Identify ways of engaging learners in creative thinking in your learning context.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for anyone interested in 3D modelling and printing.

It will be of particular use to non-subject-specialist teachers, computing teachers, and design and technology teachers who are interested in using the Raspberry Pi and Python in their classroom.

What software or tools do you need?

  • a notebook with touchpad or mouse
  • a microSD card (8GB minimum) or USB (8 GB minimum)
  • a 3D printer is just an option (we will have the 3D printer or any public available printer is fine)

You’ll receive a Certificate of Achievement when you complete the course.
